BMC Ensures Complete Manhole Coverage as IMD Issues Red Alert.

Must Read

In response to the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) recent red alert warning for heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its surrounding areas, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken swift action to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. As part of their preparations for the monsoon season, BMC officials have promised that all manholes across the city will be covered to prevent accidents and waterlogging.

The IMD’s red alert came as a result of a deep depression forming over the Arabian Sea, which has intensified into a cyclonic storm. This weather system is expected to bring extremely heavy rainfall and strong winds to the coastal regions of Maharashtra, including Mumbai. Such weather conditions pose significant risks, including flooding and waterlogging, especially in low-lying areas and those with inadequate drainage systems.

In the past, the city of Mumbai has faced numerous challenges during the monsoon season, with waterlogging being one of the most pressing issues. Uncovered manholes have been a major concern, leading to accidents and posing a threat to the safety of citizens. To address this problem proactively, the BMC has launched a comprehensive drive to cover all manholes across the city before the onset of the heavy rainfall.

the BMC’s proactive approach to cover all manholes ahead of the IMD’s red alert warning demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety of Mumbai’s residents during the monsoon season. While this initiative is commendable, it’s essential for the authorities and citizens to work together and remain vigilant in addressing other potential challenges posed by heavy rainfall and flooding.
