New Chandani Chowk flyover on Mumbai-Bangalore Highway in Pune to open on August 12

The new Chandani Chowk flyover, which has been planned as a result to the major business logjams that do on the Mumbai- Bangalore Highway, will be opened to the public on August 12.

Pune District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh lately conducted a review of the progress of the work and said it’s 97 per cent complete.

As per Deshmukh, the girder installation work is presently underway for which business on the main trace has been diverted between12.30 am to3.30 am for ten days. Of the total 32 crossbars, 25 have been installed. “ On the main route, nine crossbars are to be installed of which five have been installed and the rest will be installed soon, ” said Deshmukh. This, Deshmukh said, will be followed by concretisation and road development.

The design, which was tallied to be completed by April this time, has seen a significant detention. The design was firstly planned to be completed by August 2021 but it encountered colorful obstacles similar as land accession, business operation and the impact of the epidemic. The old ground at the point was demolished in October 2022 when it was seen that it was contributing to the business traffic.

“ The ground will be opened for public use on August 12 in the presence of the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers and the Guardian Minister. It’s a significant design for Pune and the neighbouring sections, ” said Deshmukh.

“ The work was grueling because it’s on a public trace and had to be done without blocking the business. We demolished the old ground overnight and removed the debris in a many hours. There were issues pertaining to land accession and some land possessors had approached the Supreme Court but with cooperation from the Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune police, National Highways Authority of India and the original administration, the design has come near to completion, ” said Deshmukh.

He added that the road druggies are formerly getting a sense of the benefits of the design after the service roads were opened. “ Crossing the Chandani Chowk tailback was a agony and it used to take 40 twinkles to an hour, ” said Deshmukh.
