The Supreme Court on Tuesday remitted the pledge taking form of Delhi electricity nonsupervisory commission ( DERC) speaker- designate Justice( retd) Umesh Kumar and sought responses from the Centre and the office of the Lieutenant Governor( L- G) on a plea of the Delhi government challenging the law governing such an appointment.

Issuing notice on the solicitation filed by the Delhi government, a bench of principal justice of India( CJI) Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud and justice PS Narasimha agreed to hear the matter on July 11 as the solicitation raised a legal issue with regard to the indigenous validity of Section 45D of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi( GNCTD) Ordinance 2023 lately brought in by the Centre after the apex court ruled on May 11 giving Delhi government control over services in the public Capital.

The Court said, “ Having regard to urgency of the matter, let the solicitation be listed on July 11. It’ll be understood that administering of pledge in performance of announcement of June 21 to the former judge of the Allahabad high court shall stand remitted presently. ”

This comes a day after the court dismissed the AAP leader’s bail plea in the Enforcement Directorate’s plutocrat laundering inquiry in the excise policy case, calling it a case of a “ peculiar nature ”.
