West Bengal Panchayat Election 2023 Result LIVE updates : The counting of votes in the violence- hit panchayat and pastoral body choices in West Bengal is presently underway. This comes a day after repolling was held across 696 polling cells in 19 sections.
In this election, 37 people have lost their lives, with 18 killed on the day of polling on Saturday.
A aggregate of5.67 crore people living in the state’s pastoral areas were eligible to decide the fate of2.06 lakh campaigners in 73,887 seats of the panchayat system.
The counting of votes in the panchayat and pastoral choices in West Bengal is underway amid tight security. The counting will be done in six phases. The election was marred by violence as over 33 people were killed in political clashes across the state since the date of the panchayat pates was blazoned beforehand last month. Of these, 18 people were killed on the day of polling on Saturday.

Polling was held on July 8 in over 61,000 cells for the three- league panchayat choices, with a namer turnout of80.71 per cent. In several places, ballot boxes were pillaged, set on fire and thrown in ponds, leading to violence. The extent of violence on advancing day was similar that repolling had to be done in nearly 696 cells. Over5.6 crore people living in pastoral Bengal were eligible to cast their votes in the choices that saw over 206,000 campaigners battling for 73,887 seats.
Indeed the result day is seeing sporadic incidents of violence at places like Diamond Harbour and Howrah quarter, with the police resorting to lathi charge to disperse the crowd trying to storm into the counting centres. Reports of crude losers being hurled have also surfaced.
