Noida, a city in Uttar Pradesh, has been put on high alert as the water level of the Hindon River has risen, posing a risk of flooding in low-lying areas. The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration issued a flood warning after witnessing a surge in water discharge from the river. As a precautionary measure, around 200 people from five villages have been evacuated and moved to shelter homes to ensure their safety and well-being.

The situation is concerning as the river is currently flowing below the danger mark of 205 meters in the district, which shares its border with Delhi in western Uttar Pradesh. Senior officials are closely monitoring the situation, and authorities are working to provide adequate accommodation, food, and healthcare facilities to the evacuated individuals.

Additional District Magistrate Atul Kumar stated, “Around 200 people from five villages have been evacuated and shifted to shelter homes that have been set up by the administration to provide them accommodation, food, and health care.” Kumar, who is also the nodal officer for flood relief work in Gautam Buddh Nagar, further informed that the Hindon River’s current flow stands at 200 meters, below the danger mark of 205 meters.

Apart from Noida, Delhi is also facing a flood alert due to the Yamuna River breaching the danger mark. The threat of floods is rising in the capital, impacting relief and rehabilitation work in low-lying areas. The India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, further exacerbating the situation.
